Ladies I Love!
I am a great admirer of many ladies, and I hope that after the month of April when the A to Z Challenge ends, you will be too (if you aren’t already). Actually, the phrase “Ladies I Love” is a bit misleading, because really, I’m talking about females in general; for example, I am female, but I don’t consider myself to be a lady*. I don’t spend my days swooning about in taffeta frocks and meandering about the garden with a parasol and pair of gloves, no, and there are few females that I know who do. However, I didn’t quite connect with the phrases “Females I Favor” and “Women who are Wonderful” and “XX Chromosomes that XXCite me”. So, I went with “Ladies I Love”. Short, sweet, simple. But deceptive! For, as you shall see during the month of April, these “Ladies” may (or may not?) include the following sorts:
- Actual human females who could be artists, scientists, writers, innovators, or role models
- Non-human females who are interesting or unique in one way or another
- Non-existent females who have contributed to the feminine mystique through time, history and space

Hi – I’m back! That time difference does create some challenges with posting. I cannot believe how creative your theme, and the way you describe it, are. If i EVER could manage a parasol and gloves for 1 day … Actually gloves would be good since I’m one of the few “ladies” who doesn’t get manicures. Can’t wait to meet your 26 female mystery guests!!

I had a bit of a “late, late” like the Rabbit of Alice in Wonderland start to the A to Z Reveal today! Thankfully, everyone has been posting their Reveal posts to Twitter, and thereby, I am able to visit & hop! 🙂
When I first stumbled across this blog earlier today, I felt like someone given a special gift! I loved the idea behind your theme, because its a celebration of ladies & life & history! A lot of the historical fiction books I’m drawn into of late are biographical fictions relating the life of a lady of the living past who either had an adverse life to overcome OR made an impressive impact whilst she lived! Women such as Betsy Bonaparte (The Ambitious Madame Bonaparte by Ruth Hull Chatlien); Hildegard von Bingen (Illuminations by Mary Sharratt); Josephine Bonaparte (Becoming Josephine by Heather Webb); or even, Citadel by Kate Mosse which highlighted a little known French Resistance story of women heroism from WWII France! I cannot believe I’ve been blessed to read their stories since I started blogging & thereby blogging my impressions of their lives!
And, yet I love your idea of incorporating artists, scientists, writers, — all creatives in their own rights towards the exploration and celebration of womanhood! I look forward to dropping back, that much I can assure you! 🙂 Rock on!

Oh, thank you so so much for visiting and leaving your thoughtful comments! There are SO many amazing females to write about, I had a difficult time choosing on whom to focus. Really, 26 entries is a small fraction of what I could write about! I am also looking forward to people sharing with me the types of ladies they admire – it sounds like you’ve got a lot of rich material from a historical perspective – it is all so interesting. I’m going to try and keep my posts light and short, and often humorous (some of my ladies aren’t even human, after all!), but I think my overall goal is to share an appreciation of women as they have contributed to our culture, knowledge base, natural world, and other areas that are important to us.

Yeah, the sci-fi fantasy world sure does have a way to go in terms of gender diversity, although I’m not an authority on the genre. All I know is that when I see female characters in sci-fi movies and such, they all tend to have big boobs, a tiny waist, and are there to support the man-heroes. Not that there’s anything wrong with man-heroes; we should just be celebrating women as heroes as well! Anyway, rant over; I’ll certainly stop by Fangirl Next Door in April! 😀
