We’re pleased to announce 2013’s Cat of the Year Award…

The Grammy’s.  The Emmy’s.  The Golden Globes.  Even the Academy Awards.  They all pale in comparison to the Sigman-Koski Awards, which has one highly-coveted CATegory:  that’s, right, CAT OF THE YEAR!  And without further ado, the winner of the 2013 Cat of the Year Award is….

Jesse, who just turned 15 years old this past January 3rd, won paws down for being the best cat in the Sigman-Koski household during 2013.  His primary talents include snuggling on the couch with humans during nap time, purring, inciting the wrath of Oliver (which mostly involves growling), and avoiding food-bowl conflicts.  Congratulations, Jesse!  We love you!

I’m really not that unpopular, see…

I figured with the new year and a reinvigorated blogging attitude, I would shake things up here at A Very Marcilicious Blog.  Can you believe I’ve had this blog since 2005?  Yes…since then (well, since I started tracking, at least), that little blog has generated over 13,000 page views, and is currently averaging about 450 hits per month (OMG, I think I need to increase my bandwidth to accommodate all that traffic).  So why does this matter? Well, I decided to move my blog from Blogger to WordPress.  It seemed like there was a bit more flexibility with WordPress in terms of design (although it’s not entirely free, like Blogger), and I just wanted a fresh look.  So, in importing my old blog to my new blog, I lost all my visitor stats…and as of right now I have zero page hits and only one follower (me).  So do me a solid and check back here every now and again, ok?  I’ll try to even be entertaining occasionally.  Thanks!  🙂

Long or short?

Gonna be a little self-indulgent and perhaps a bit narcissistic here.  But what do you think – long or short?  I just had my hair cut a couple of weeks ago, and now it’s the shortest it has been since the 7th grade.  See?

Bah, screw it.  I was going to post a picture of me with long hair for comparison, but since there’s no going back, there’s no need for it.  Also, I usually just tied my hair back anyway and rarely wore it down. I like the way my hair looks now – it was time for a change!

Blllaaaaahhhhhhhhhh…….

I wish I had something interesting to write about.  I wish I had something interesting to think about. Unfortunately, it is Sunday evening and I am pondering what tomorrow will be like…but the answer is already too clear.  I will be in a meeting from 9 to 3.  First, I hate meetings.  Second, I start getting angry when they go beyond an hour.  Third, what’s up with no breaks???  Fourth, don’t even suggest a working lunch.  Alright, here are some funny pictures to help me see my upcoming Monday in a more cheerful light.  Ready?  Here we go!

On girl crushes and body image

Happy New Year!  Very briefly, it’s a new year and this is a new blog.  I hate resolutions, but I resolve to transform this blog into one that’s not so torturous to write (and perhaps read, I don’t know how it is for you).  Writing long posts to catch up was just killing me, so I put Marcilicious on hiatus (as well as Brainy Girls, but that’s another topic).  I want short, random posts!  You want them too (maybe)!  So here’s the first one.  Boom.

As you may know, I skate with the Storm City Roller Girls (and I also manage the website, so please visit – I just provided you with the link, see?).  Throughout my entire life I’ve struggled with my own body image – being overweight, not pretty enough, blah blah blah.  My girl crushes have been (and continue to be on) the fabulously dorky Drew Barrymore (although I feel our connection is diminishing now that she’s on the having-kids-being-a-mom kick, but perhaps it’s a phase) and the Hermione-esque Emma Watson.  Oh, I’ve envied them and other women in the media like them for so long!  Why can’t I be more like them?  Skinny, pretty, perfect.

The truth is, I never will be like them, and I’ve got to learn how to accept that about myself. I’ve known this for a long time and have told myself this a million times.  But here enters derby and ALL THE GIRL CRUSHES!!!  Here you could not ask for a more diverse group of women in terms of body shape, size, appearance, and style.  And I want to be like so many of them!  I found myself wanting to be just like girls who had very little in common with Drew Barrymore or Emma Watson (both physically and otherwise).  And once I realized this, it was like, daaaaamn…if I think these girls are so awesome, maybe other people think I’M awesome, and maybe I can think I’m awesome too.  Mind blown.

High-five ladies – I think you’re incredible!
